CRI stands for Color Rendering Index, a metric used to evaluate how accurately a light source reveals the true colors of objects compared to natural sunlight. The index ranges from 0 to 100, with higher values indicating better color accuracy:
1. CRI 90 and above: Excellent color rendering, ideal for settings where true color is essential, such as art studios, high-end retail, and medical environments.
2. CRI 80–89: Good color rendering, suitable for general indoor use like offices, homes, and commercial spaces.
3. CRI 70–79: Moderate color rendering, common for outdoor or industrial lighting where color accuracy is less critical.
4. CRI below 70: Poor color rendering, typically used for outdoor or functional lighting.
For most applications, a CRI above 80 is considered adequate. Higher CRI lights, however, are preferred in settings where precise color distinction is essential.
